For the third year in a row the Tewa Holiday Project has teamed up with the students and faculty at Verde Valley School to sponsor the Coats4Kids Winter coat drive for First Mesa Elementary on the Hopi Reservations. Many of the Tewa elementary age children attend First Mesa Elementary School. Last year we provided 106 brand new coats for students at First Mesa Elementary. For many of the children it was the first new winter coat they had ever received. When I talked to First Mesa Elementary Principal, Sahmie Wytewa, she was excited to hear that we were going to have the coat drive again and said “We do appreciate ALL you are doing to support our kids in the First Mesa and surrounding Hopi-Tewa & Navajo communities”.
So how is it going to work? We have obtained the gender of each student, coat size and preferred color. If you cannot find the preferred coat color no worries, just get one that is close.
Stop at the display at Weber’s IGA in the Village of Oak Creek and take one of the “Coat Ornaments” from the display. Child information and directions are provided on the coat ornament.
Or stop at the display at Natural Grocers in West Sedona and take one of the “Coat Ornaments” from the display. Child information and directions are provided on the coat ornament.
If you pick up your coat ornament from Webers just return your new coat to the Customer Service desk at Webers. If you pick up a coat at Natural Grocers, call Randy Crewse at 928-300-7141 to arrange delivery of the coat or just bring them to Randy’s front door at 100 Pony Soldier Road in West Sedona. That’s all there is to it!
