2014 Coats4Kids Brings Lots of Smiles

On December 12th the Tewa Holiday Project delivered 106 coats and hand knitted hats to First Mesa Elementary on the Hopi Reservation for the third year on a row. The Coats4Kids project is sponsored by Verde Valley School under the direction of Caroline Deihl. The project begins in October with First Mesa Elementary Principal Ms. Sahmie Wytewa sending out and getting back information from the children’s parents for color, size and gender. Then Caroline Deihl and her students make individual “coat” ornaments with the coat information on it and get them hung on trees that are placed at Weber’s IGA in the Village of Oak and Natural Grocers in West Sedona. Then the miracle occurs, when for the last three years, all the coat ornaments are taken off the trees by the generous community members in Sedona. The coats are were delivered back to Verde Valley School and organized for the delivery to the students. This year Milton Crewse and Claudine Mooney hand knitted 106 hats for the students and they were huge success.

As you can see from the pictures below there were smiles all around.
